Gov. Tony Evers has included $2 million in his capital budget for the new Green Bay area visitors center. The state investment requires the Greater Green Bay CVB to secure an additional $5 million in funding; $3.5 million of this has already been secured through contributions from such organizations as the Oneida Nation and Brown County, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.  The CVB is hoping to break ground on the project in May and complete it in 2020. The state funding requires approval by the legislature, which last week rejected the Governor’s capital budget, however, there is still opportunity for parts of the budget to be approved and projects funded.

Announced last September, the $6.5 million, 12,500-square-foot center is set to be built in the area of Interstate 41 and Lombardi Avenue, just west of the Titletown District. The “Experience Greater Green Bay Visitor Center” will include an outdoor plaza for events, training space, offices for the CVB and an area for visitors with brochures, informational displays and community education installations.
