According to the U.S. Travel Association, travel spending last week in Wisconsin was down 87% from last year at this time, to $46 million—compared to $238 million the week of March 7. Although declines are leveling off across the country as virtually all non-essential travel has been eliminated.

National weekly travel spending fell to $2.9 billion last week. This is a mere 15% of the nearly $20 billion spent during the first week of March.

In the week ending April 11th the travel economy fell 87% below last year’s levels, marking a continued decline in the travel economy as lockdowns affect most of the country.

Travel spending appears to have stabilized at historically low levels, registering $19 billion lower than the same week a year ago.

Since the beginning of March, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in $80 billion in losses for the U.S. travel economy.
