The Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) recently launched the first three of its
new specialty certifications, expanding its professional development offering with focused, on-
demand education in incentive travel psychology, risk management and wellness. The new
credentials respond directly to demand from SITE members for practical, career-advancing
education that can be applied to their work immediately. SITE’s recent Member Needs Assessment found a clear appetite for higher-level learning and reinforced the association’s role as the professional home of incentive travel education.

The three new certifications include:

  1. The Psychology of Incentive Travel Planning, which explores how attention, emotion, motivation and memory influence the way participants experience incentive travel. Grounded in behavioral science, psychology and neuroscience, its six modules help planners and partners understand why some experiences stay with participants long after they return home, while others are quickly forgotten. Learners explore the science of motivation, cognitive load, emotional response, social connection and memory, applying each to program design, communications, marketing and supplier proposals.
  2. Risk Ready: Assessing and Reducing Risk in Incentive Travel, which provides an accessible, industry-specific introduction to assessing and managing risk before, during and after an incentive program. Through practical examples, guided activities and templates, learners examine risks, including transportation disruptions, health and safety concerns, supplier issues, destination-related challenges, participant emergencies, weather events and larger crises. The course also covers duty of care, risk prioritization and the essential components of a crisis response plan, including team responsibilities, communication protocols and supplier readiness. Its central message is that effective risk management is not about removing the excitement from incentive travel, but enabling informed decisions that protect participants while preserving the power of the experience.
  3. Integrating Wellness into Event Planning, which helps professionals move beyond viewing wellness as an added amenity, and instead use it as a strategic tool to improve engagement, satisfaction and belonging. The certification covers selecting appropriate wellness activities for different audiences and agenda moments, vetting and contracting suppliers, defining measurable outcomes and managing implementation. It also explores social wellness and the role of shared experiences in creating stronger connections and communities.

All three certifications are delivered virtually and can be completed at the learner’s own pace.

Each awards one continuous education unit (CEU) and a certificate following successful completion. These specialty certifications complement SITE’s established CIS and CITP credentials, providing targeted continuing education on subjects shaping the design and delivery of incentive travel.

“Our members have told us very clearly that they want education they can use straight away
and these certifications are a direct response,” says Annette Gregg, MBA, CMM, CEO of SITE and SITE Foundation. “They focus on three areas that are increasingly central to great incentive travel: understanding what truly motivates people, managing risk confidently and making wellness meaningful. Each takes a big subject and turns it into practical guidance that can shape a proposal, strengthen a program and help teams make better decisions. They sit alongside Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS) and Certified Incentive Travel Professional (CITP) designations, giving professionals another way to continue building their knowledge
throughout their careers, one relevant and manageable subject at a time.”

“As incentive travel continues to evolve, professionals need relevant, practical learning that
keeps pace with the realities of their work. These new specialty certifications give our global
community an accessible way to deepen their expertise and apply fresh thinking directly to the programs and experiences they create,” according to Hasan Dinc, president of the SITE
International Board of Directors.
